Incredible Envelope Drawing

Though Creativity is a phenomenon whereby a person creates something new, but there are some exceptionally creative people who create new things by recycling or reusing the old things. Artist Mark Powell from London has done this thing. He has chosen to reuse the old discarded envelopes as his canvas to create incredible life-like drawings of the elderly. He made his sketches by using only a standard Bic Biro pen, and are individually enhanced with random handwritten postal addresses, original mail stamp, and original embellishments. He has preserved a bit of history and the stories behind the sender by recycling these envelopes that’s why his main focus is on old characters. What is adding life to these sketches is his incredibly detailed work, each and every old character is telling his own story from the very creases and wrinkles of his face.

The project first started when Powell found an envelope in an antique shop that had been sent from the front line in WWI. Other pieces have been drawn on envelopes that go back as far as 1852, historic dates that give character to each unique drawing. As well as exhibiting his work, he continues to develop his ideas and has plans to work on a larger scale. He has already begun collecting antique black and white maps to reuse for future drawings, an evolution of his work which promises to be as interesting as his current portfolio.
